Inspired by the Katherine Daniels “Skin First. Symptoms Second” philosophy, this is how I approach facials and home-care advice at POISE Skin & Wellbeing.
Most people start skincare by looking at the symptom they want to change: dryness, dullness, sensitivity, breakouts, redness, fine lines or skin that simply feels tired. That is completely understandable. It is the visible concern that usually makes someone book a facial or start looking for a new product.
But at POISE, I do not want to build a routine around chasing one concern at a time. I want to understand what your skin is doing underneath that concern first.
What “skin first” means
Skin first means looking at the overall condition of your skin before deciding what it needs. That includes hydration, barrier strength, oil levels, sensitivity, texture, lifestyle, current routine and how your skin responds to treatment.
A dry patch, for example, may not simply need a richer cream. Dullness may not mean your skin needs stronger exfoliation. Breakouts do not always mean your skin needs harsh, stripping products. Often, the better starting point is to support the skin so it can function more comfortably and respond more consistently.
Why symptom-led skincare can become confusing
When every concern is treated separately, routines can quickly become overloaded. One product is added for brightness, another for texture, another for breakouts, another for sensitivity. The result can be a routine that feels busy but does not necessarily support the skin well.
More products do not automatically mean better results. A good routine should be clear, consistent and chosen for the way your skin behaves, not just for the latest trend or strongest active ingredient.
How this shapes a POISE facial
Every POISE treatment starts with the skin in front of me on the day. I look at how it feels, how it reacts, what it may be lacking and what level of treatment it can comfortably tolerate.
Some skins need hydration and barrier support before anything more active. Some need gentle preparation and consistent home care. Some need regular treatment rather than one intense appointment. The aim is to make the facial feel purposeful, not generic.
How Katherine Daniels supports this approach
Katherine Daniels skincare works well for POISE because the range is designed around a structured, professional approach: cleanse and prepare the skin, use targeted skin boosts, support with defence products, and add treatment masks or weekly care where needed.
This makes it easier to build routines that feel considered rather than complicated. The goal is not to sell a cupboard full of products. The goal is to help you understand what your skin needs and which steps are actually worth keeping.
Healthy skin, not perfect skin
I do not believe skincare should be about chasing perfect skin. Skin changes with stress, hormones, weather, sleep, illness, medication, travel, sun exposure and lifestyle. That is normal.
The aim is healthier, calmer, better-supported skin over time. Skin that feels more comfortable. Skin that holds hydration better. Skin that responds more predictably to treatment. Skin that looks fresher because it is being looked after consistently.
When to book a consultation-led facial
A POISE facial is a good starting point if you feel unsure what your skin needs, if your routine has become confusing, or if you keep buying products that do not seem to work for long.
During your appointment, I will look at your skin, talk through your current routine and choose the treatment approach that makes the most sense for where your skin is now.
